The Royal School of Needlework – Ribbonwork classes

Hello Stitching World. It’s nearly Friday, thank goodness, and I am not sure what happens to the week — it seems to be a blur these days. I have some news to share with you from Bryna Black, the Marketing Manager for the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) at Hampton Court Palace in Surrey, UK.

Hampton Court Palace is a very special place (with exceptionally beautiful gardens) …

and I was lucky enough to visit the RSN there and to see first-hand how talented they really are.

I also met Sophie and saw a copy of her beautiful book.

Bryna wrote that they are now teaching some Day Classes in Exeter, taught by the well-known RSN Tutor, Sophie Long, who specialises in Ribbon work.

Here is the link to Sophie’s page on the RSN website, and you will see that Sophie will be teaching a few classes involving Ribbon work over the coming months.

Maybe you will be fortunate enough to attend. I wish I could be there!

More about Sophie

Sophie Long graduated from the RSN Apprenticeship in 2008 and is now completing her Certificate in Education.  She currently divides her time between working in the RSN Studio, teaching the RSN Certificate and Day Classes and working as a freelance hand embroiderer. Sophie attends a number of stitching shows across England, where she exhibits work and sells a unique range of embroidery kits. In 2008, Sophie published a well-received article on Hardanger in Cross Stitcher magazine. During 2009 she was one of the RSN Studio team who were commissioned by English Heritage to embroider a set of unusual hangings for Dover Castle in the style of the 12th century. In 2009 Sophie also went to San Francisco to teach a range of day classes for the RSN.

And I am going to add more photos of this incredible palace, where needle crafters are able to learn from the very best in the world….

What a place!

Have a wonderful weekend, stitching world!

It looks like we will have rain in Cape Town, but we need the rain, so I am not complaining.

We will be hiking at Cape Point and rain jackets will be fine.
